A simple networking solution with rockspace extender

I am a security consultant for a number of companies, and ever since the coronavirus pandemic I have been working from home and all of my job has now become online. I have daily meetings with various companies and that requires me to have a stable and strong connection without any disruptions. Also use my Wi-Fi for streaming and gaming and so overall I am a heady duty internet user. I always have to make sure that I have an ethernet cable plugged into my personal computer before joining a meeting. I have been getting a significant disturbance in my connection. After, I thought that this problem has to do with the back end and that the ISP should correct it. But when I run a speed test the results are great. I only get connectivity drops when I move away from the room in which my Wi-Fi router is kept. Mainly I have pretty big house and so I decided to fix the problem. I searched online and decided to purchase an extender. I bought a rock space extender, it has an elegant design and can look discreet so it easily blends with the decor. Now I am quite happy with the purchase as it performs exactly as mentioned. It has nearly double the speeds and range of other extenders that you can find in the market. I performed the setup using the re.rockspace.local setup page. Below is a detailed yet concise list of setup instructions.

Setting up the extender

Setting up the extender is an easy task and requires little to no technical know-how. But before setting it up make sure to carefully unbox the extender and remove all the pieces of packaging, then, plug it into a power socket and turn it on. Now that the repeater has been turned on you can set it up using one of two ways either by using an ethernet cable or by wirelessly connecting it with your smartphone. To set it up using an ethernet cable connect the ethernet cable to the extender and then insert the other end into your personal computer and head over to the default gateway by typing in the default i.p address and enter your login credentials or you can also head over to the rockspace extender login page and set up the extender from there. Once you have logged in to the page you can configure the repeater to your desired settings. You can also change the SSID and password and set it as a new access point or you can connect to your existing router by selecting the scan option and clicking on your router from the list of available devices.

If you want to set-up the extender wirelessly then, make sure that the extender is connected with your smartphone or laptop. Then the setup process is the exact same. You can also set-up the extender using the WPS button, to do that press and hold the WPS button at the back of the extender for about 2 seconds till the lights start flashing, then do the same on the main Wi-Fi router. Once the connection has been established you will see that the internet symbol will have turned green. If you find that the default page shows re.rockspace.local not working then follow the troubleshooting instructions given below.

Extender troubleshooting and firmware update

If you think you made a mistake while setting up the extender or if you find that something went wrong then and want to find a solution, then follow the instructions given below to start anew. These instructions are generic and solve most of the problems that you encounter. Now, If your extender was not connecting the main router then try rebooting it, but if it didn’t solve the problem then try factory resetting it. After the device has been resetted follow the above-mentioned setup instructions to properly setup your extender.
Also, make sure to check your firmware version as an outdated firmware also causes such issues. To update your firmware log in to the default page and click the update option in the system settings. But before that search for the model number on the internet to get the rockspace extender firmware file. Then select the firmware and click on update to update the extender.
