1) – Logo

First of all, you need to have a logo for your business. People should be able to recognize the brand by just looking at the logo! It needs to be memorable and recognizable . It needs to match with what you sell. If you sell clothes, it needs to be colorful and fancy. If you sell devices, make it look “high-tech”.

Go to Google Images and search for the term “Logo” or “brand logo”. You will find literally millions of logos! And they are free (most of them).

It doesn’t need to be complicated, but it needs to be unique and original!

2) – Website design

Your website needs to feel like a “store”. Lots of people (even me!) firstly visit your website, look around and then decide whether to buy from you or not.

The first things that people see are all the pictures! You need to have a minimum of 4 big pictures per page , these pictures need to be colorful and represent what you sell. If you’re selling clothes, don’t put a picture of bookcases or printers. Put pictures of clothes, shoes or accessories!

Each picture needs to be 1600x900px big (they are displayed in a grid).

You also need to have a minimum of 3 rows with products on each page . You can have more than that if you want, but don’t go below that number.

These products need to be well displayed and big.

You need to have a minimum of 1 product video . Keep it simple and short, just show people what you sell! Remember that most buyers can’t actually see your products before buying them (some live in other countries).

You also need to have a “Contact Us” page with your phone number or e-mail address. You need to make it easy for people to contact you .

You can also have a “FAQ” page (answers common questions), an “About Us” page (which contains information about who you are and what you do) and finally, an “Advertising” page (where you put your ads).

You need to use a grid of thumbnails and big pictures on the homepage.

Make sure that you have an SSL certificate on your site (it makes it look more professional). Also, add the “green padlock” on your address bar! It tells people that they’re browsing on a secure website:

3) – Product pages

Each product needs to have a picture and a title. The title should match with what you wrote in the picture (it’s easier for people that way). You also need to add the maximum price, colors and other attributes that apply to your products. Make it easy for people to find what they want!

Don’t have a “view more” button, instead split your products. You can do it by categories or by colors for example.

You also need to have a minimum of 2-3 reviews from other customers about the product you’re selling. It shows people that other people purchased this product and liked it!

4) – Payment methods

This is a must. If you don’t accept credit cards or PayPal, people will never buy from you! The only way to sell stuff online is using these payment providers (well, maybe except if your business is targeted at local customers).

The best ones are PayPal and Stripe . They’re easy to install and they look professional! You don’t need to have a website designed by a professional to use them, they look good on simple WordPress WooCommerce websites too.

5) – Shipping methods

You need to be clear with your shipping prices and times.

Websites that are clear about their shipping usually get more sales, so be clear! Don’t say “Free Shipping” if it isn’t free or don’t say “1-3 Business Days” if it’s not the case all the time.

6) – Terms and conditions

You need to have a TOS (terms of service) and a COO (customer’s online order).
