Review: Oaxis Watch Combines The Best Of Smart And Analog Watches

If you’ve been keeping up with smartwatches, perhaps because you don’t want to strap a geeky miniature iPhone around your wrist, check out the Watch (starting at $ 89). I don’t normally recommend Kickstarter projects because they don’t always come to fruition; but this one is already funded and oaxais sent me one to try so they can actually build them!

I liked the traditional and elegant look of the watch, with analog clock hands AND they sync with the Timepiece app, so you can sync the time with your phone. Some other combinations of analog and smart watches traditionally keep analog time, and you have to change it manually each time you travel through time zones or when daylight savings time changes.

The watch itself is light and comfortable. Despite including a screen and the guts of the smartphone, the watch isn’t that big, but it’s a bit chunky. About four quarters thick. There is a built-in heart rate sensor, like the Apple Watch, and it can be submerged up to 30 meters. Because it uses energy-efficient e-Ink, it offers 30 days of battery life. This means that you can use it to monitor sleep, something that is difficult to do on the Apple Watch due to the need for frequent charging. The Timepiece offers notifications for calls, texts, email, calendar appointments and social networks; But unlike Apple Watch, you can’t exactly compose a reply to a text or answer a call on your watch.
